Toshiyuki Teruya’s latest feature film Born Bone Born has been officially invited for Out-of Competition Program of the 40th Moscow International Film Festival which will be held from April 19th to April 26th, 2018.
This is a feature adaptation of Teruya’s short film Born, Bone, Boon (2016) which is awarded at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2017 Official Competition and SKIP CITY International D-CINEMA Festival 2017. Starring Eiji Okuda (64, Rurouni Kenshin), Michitaka Tsutsui (64, Midnight Diner) and Ayame Misaki (Radiance), the film depicts the baton that passes "life" from parent to child through a local ritual called "senkotsu" (bone washing).
*Senkotsuis an Okinawan local ritual. The dead body aerially buried is taken out from the tomb after all the flesh is gone, and by being cleaned by his/her close relatives, the bone is again buried in the tomb and the soul could finally leave “This world”.
The title is available for worldwide except Japan.

[ Synopsis ] Takashi comes back to his hometown in Aguni island, Okinawa for his mother’s Senkotsu. His father Nobutsuna is living alone like a dead after his wife’s death. Takashi blames Nobutsuna for the mother’s death, since she worked a lot to pay the debt for the Nobutsuna’s company. Takashi’s sister Yuko who lives in Nagoya also comes back, but to everyone’s surprise, she is 9 months of pregnancy. Takashi cannot accept Yuko’s free wheelingness. The family is filled with the awkward mood while the day of the mother’s Senkotsu is approaching…

Born in 1972, in Naha City, Okinawa. After dropping out from film study at the Nihon University, College of Art, he has been performed mainly on TV programs as comedian “Gori”. He later widened his activities, in 2006, he made his directorial debut in the short film "KEIJI BOGGY". "Born, Bone, Boon" (2016) has received wide acclaim, winning the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2017 Official Competition Japan Award and SKIP CITY International D-CINEMA Festival 2017 Japan Audience Award. Teruya's talents are wide-ranging from comedian to actor, and movie director.
