At age of 14, this french actor played important leading roles in some of the most important French New Wave films. Casted by François Truffaut, his first role was Antoine Doinel in the film Les Quatre Cents Coups (The 400 Blows; 1959).

He also appeared in Jean-Luc Godard's most important films; Masculin-Féminin (Masculine Feminine; 1966), La Chinoise (1967), and Le Week-End (Weekend; 1967). Previous recipients were Clint Eastwood, Manoel de Oliveira, Woody Allen, Bernardo Betolucci and Agneès Varda.

Present at the said event, are the only two Filipino filmmakers who got entered in the full length film category, "Ma'Rosa" by renowned director, Brillante Mendoza and his protégé, Raymund Gutierrez with the short film entitled "Imago". 

The following films will be screened from the 11th of May to the 22nd along with other entries from around the world.
