Shaggy to storm Manila with smash songs
Jamaican-American reggae fusion singer and deejay Shaggy brings to Chaos Nightclub – City of Dreams on Sunday, Sept. 6 his biggest hits that many say helped open the door for such artists as Sean Paul and Sean Kingston.
In the ‘90s, Shaggy scored back-to-back-to back chart toppers including “Boombastic,” “Hey Sexy Lady,” and “It Wasn’t Me,” as well as versions of “Oh Carolina,” “Angel” and “In The Summertime.”
The music scene trend then was transitioning from alternative to R&B, rap and hip hop, and Shaggy’s transatlantic hits certainly made the shift easy while setting the template for artists of his ilk all the way to 2015 and beyond.
Some of these songs were even used in the original soundtracks of Hollywood movies and as campaign jingles of giant multi-national brands.
The album “Boombastic” won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. The follow-up, “Hot Shot,” shipped 6x Platinum in the US and also hit number one in the UK.
Eventually, Shaggy would release a greatest hits compilation.
The “Up Close & Personal with Shaggy” concert on Sunday is a Steven Browstein Production, the same group that presented “American Idol” sensation Jessica Sanchez’ concert at Chaos Nightclub just a few weeks back.
Monster Radio RX 93.1 is the Official Radio Concert station.
