Arnold Reyes stars for indie film Kasal, directed by Jay Altarejos and written by Zig Dulay.

Arnold is a Backroom artist since he started his career as a theater actor.

The controversial role

Arnold reveals he is the third actor to be chosen to play Sherwin, a lawyer. First it was Polo Ravales, then Mike Liwag.

“Ako na‘yung pangatlo. Actually, medyo kinakabahan ako kasi sabi ko, baka hindi din ako magustuhan. Pero ang mahalaga sa akin ay yung character. Mas nag focus ako dun sa significance nung character ko sa movie” 2009 Cinemalaya’s Best Supporting Actor said on Thursday at the pocket press-con held in Tiago' s Tomas Morato.

When asked about portraying gay roles he shared that it is his third time to portray a gay character. The first was in Imoral by Adolf Alix, where his screen partner was Paolo Paraiso.

The second was in Muli, where he co-starred opposite Sid Lucero, also directed by Adolf Alix from a script by the Palanca award-winning Jerry Gracio.

Arnold has had an official entry every year since the Cinemalaya Film Festival began 10 years ago.

On Director Jay Altarejos

The story of 'Kasal'
It revolves around a gay couple—Paolo, a film director, and Sherwin, a lawyer—whose relationship becomes complicated when one of them sounds off about wanting to get married. They are accepted as a couple in Paolo’s family, but in Sherwin’s, they are not. Their troubles begin when they attend a wedding of one of Sherwin’s relatives.
Kasal will be screened at various venues, including Trinoma Cinemas, to make the Cinemalaya films more accessible to the public. It also stars Oliver Aquino, Rita Avila, Ruby Ruiz, Maureen Mauricio, Rener Concepcion, Ron Cieno, Christine Florendo, Sue Prado and Natileigh Sitoy.
Kasal is an official entry to the Directors Showcase section of the 2014 Cinemalaya
