The Philippines formally opened the 2013 ASEAN Schools Games Golf Championship on November 24, 2013. The delegates from Brunei Darrussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore were greeted at the Chateu Royale, Nasugbu, and allowed to settle in and relax before the opening ceremonies commenced at the Chateu Royale Grand Ballroom.
Welcoming words and open arms greeted the delegates and chiefs of mission with speeches from Nasugbu Mayor Rosario Apacible, Laurel Mayor Randy Amo, and Batangas Schools Superintendent Donato Bueno. There, Mr. Jack Imperial of the Junior Golf Foundation was introduced as the Tournament Director.
Towards the end of the Program, Assistant Secretary Tonisito M.C. Umali Esq. spoke on behalf of the Philippines Department of Education. In his speech, the Assistant Secretary reflected on the Philippines’ reaffirmation of its association with the ASEAN and the Solidarity of the ASEAN region not only in times of need but also in times of abundance. The tournament was dedicated to those who were affected by the recent string of disasters including the earthquake that devastated Bohol Island and the Super Typhoon Yolanda (internationally known as Haiyan) that struck Central Philippines earlier in November.
On the brighter side, the colors of the Philippines were showcased with pride and grace through musical and dance numbers from the Batangas Provincial High School for Culture and the Arts.
