The Philippines, through the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will host the 6th Association of South East Asian Nations Schools Games (ASG) on December 2014, even as the country is set to host the ASG golf tournament in November this year.
The Philippines participated in the recently concluded 5th ASEAN Schools Games in Hanoi, Vietnam where it sent selected 2013 Palarong Pambansa medalists. The contingent won three bronze medals in boys’ volleyball, girls’ basketball and boys’ javelin throw. Bryan Jay Pacheco bested the Palarong Pambansa record and his personal best in javelin throw. Pacheco also broke the Palarong Pambansa record in shot put.

PASIG CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) and the ICTSI Foundation Inc. have signed an agreement today to co-manage the golf tournament of the ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) in Splendido Country Club, Taal, Batangas November this year. The agreement signed by Education Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera and ICTSI Deputy Executive Director Filipina Laurena authorizes the ICTSI-FI to manage the tournament as one of the major sponsors and partners in the 2013 ASG golf tournament. "The Philippines volunteered to host the ASG Golf Tournament to jump-start our participation in the ASEAN Schools Sports Council and to get us ready for the 2014 ASG which we will host next year. This is also an opportunity to showcase the Philippines beyond our golf courses," said Rivera. As a major sponsor, the ICTSI Foundation will provide the tournament director, referees, scorers and services related to the actual technical administration of the games. They will also provide for the use of the golf course, golf carts, caddy services, lockers, the clubhouse, sound system and other equipment and facilities necessary for the games. The Philippines through DepEd is a regular and active member of the ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASSC) which conducts the annual ASG. It aims to enhance camaraderie among students around the region and to provide opportunities for school athletes to engage in cultural exchange. The 2013 ASEAN Schools Games Golf Tournament (ASG-GT), a regular event of the ASG, will be hosted by the Philippines on November 25-29, 2013. ICTSI-FI was established by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) to manage the latter’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. It supports the growth potentials of the youth in the fields of sports, education and community service. As part of their agreement, DepEd shall provide the ICTSI Foundation Inc. all the relevant 2013 ASG-GT information for the ICTSI’s team to deliver their commitment.
The tournament will be participated by Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, all of which are member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
