PAMELA ANDERSON PAINTS HER BODY LIKE A BUTCHER'S DIAGRAM FOR NEW VEGETARIAN CAMPAIGN

'All Animals Have the Same Parts,' Says Blonde Bombshell

Manila — Former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson is the star of a new Philippine ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In the provocative ad, Anderson's nearly naked body is covered in paint markings that mimic a butcher's diagram—her flesh is marked "breast," "round," and "rump"—and the caption reads, "All Animals Have the Same Parts. Have a Heart—Go Vegetarian."

Says Anderson , "Humans and animals have a lot more similarities than differences. Both have a brain, a nervous system, and most importantly, a heart. And that's why I'm a vegetarian. I hope that this new campaign helps people come to the same conclusion."

The cruelty inherent in the meat industry is well documented. Pigs are castrated, and their tails and teeth are cut or broken off—all without painkillers. Chickens are drugged and bred to grow so rapidly that they become crippled from supporting the weight of their own massive upper bodies. Birds' throats are cut while they are still conscious, and many are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. One's understanding of this cruelty becomes clearer when one realizes that it's unnecessary: Humans do not need to eat animal flesh. In fact, people are healthier if they don't. Going vegetarian benefits not only animals but also human health—a plant-based diet helps prevent strokes, osteoporosis, and cancer.

Anderson and many other international celebrities—including Alicia Silverstone, Maggie Q, Barbie Hsu, and former Baywatch co-star Traci Bingham—have starred in provocative and eye-catching PETA ads to promote a vegetarian diet.
