After a few months Illac Diaz is here again to organize another run for a cause. By the use of plastic bottles and the help of runners the first plastic bottle school in the country will be constructed. Watch out !
RUNNERS RAISE BOTTLES TO BUILD
FIRST PLASTIC BOTTLE SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY
TAGUIG CITY, PHILIPPINES - On June 13, Sunday, runners from different parts of the metropolis will converge at Bonifacio Global City in the City of Taguig for the SCHOOL BOTTLE RUN, a groundbreaking running event that seeks to raise at least 9,000 1.5- and 2-liter plastic soda bottles for one unlikely purpose: to build the first plastic bottle school in the country.
The project was conceived by Illac Diaz, award-winning social entrepreneur and the founder of MyShelter Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization that aims to find innovative solutions to fighting climate change through sustainable, eco-friendly, low-cost, and disaster-resistant structures.
After successfully experimenting with innovative and sustainable construction technologies to build earthen schools and bamboo schools, Diaz now turns to soda PET (plastic) bottles to build weather-proof schools that not only help reduce waste—they also serve as communities’ first line of defense when disasters strike. Morever, the schools are a concrete reminder of the very issues that sorely need to be addressed within our communities especially during this time of the year.
The first plastic bottle school in the country will be built in Maharlika Village, Taguig City, with the support of the Department of Education, the City of Taguig, Pepsi, Insular Life, and Cecon.
To aid in bottle collection, runners participating in the race are being requested to bring two 1.5- or 2-liter plastic soda bottles each, aside from paying for the modest registration fee: P200 for the 3K run, and P300 for the 5K and 10K runs. The starting point is at 28th Street, fronting Serandra. Gunstart times are 5:30am (10k), 5:45am (5k), and 6:00am (3k).
